To my friends and family: We have been planning this trip for many months now and the time is finally here. Our group will spend the first few days in Frankfurt, Germany more or less just for fun! We will then travel to Mombasa, Kenya where the real work begins. We will volunteer in the local hospital as well as spend many hours with the children of the orphanage in Mombasa. I will do my best to post at least once a day to keep you up to date on happenings and pictures. I hope you enjoy!

Sunday - Beach Day
Sunday was much of the same relaxing we did on Saturday. We
headed to the beach around noon and hung out in the sun for most of the
afternoon. It was really windy at the beach and since the sand was so powder
fine, we were pretty much sandblasted for three hours straight. Sleeping in the
sun was still nice. We wanted to make it back to the compound in time to say
goodbye to Mia, who had to take off for the airport at six. A much-needed
shower revealed sand in places I didn’t know sand could get. That might be the
last windy day I spend on the beach. That evening we all went out to an Italian
restaurant called Roberto’s. I had already eaten at the house so I wasn’t too
hungry, but I couldn’t resist the Bruchetta. After dinner we all headed back
and spent the next few hours watching “E” since it’s the only channel we get
that isn’t international news. It was a beautiful evening, so eventually a few
of us headed out to the pool and sat around and talked before heading to bed.
