Today
was a much needed day of rest. We slept in a little bit and took our time
getting ready. Mia is leaving tomorrow and wanted to go to this little part of
town called “Old Town” that has a bunch of little shops. The shops were all
pretty small, but there were tons of little trinkets and souvenirs. Almost
every shop had hand carved wooden gifts. That is a really big thing here. They
can make some of the most beautiful hand carved animals. I was so tempted, but
I just don’t think a six-foot giraffe carving would qualify as my carry-on item
on the flight home.

We spent nearly two hours wandering
through the stores and then headed back to the compound because they had
prepared us an American BBQ. There were hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, and
vegetables. I was definitely ready for some American food. Generally, for dinner
we have something that consists of rice or pasta and some sort of stew. A
hamburger definitely hit the spot. After we ate we all hung out for a bit and
planned a dessert outing. Since this is Mia’s last night before she heads back
to Texas we celebrated with ice cream from the café near the market. It had
been a long week full of too many new things, and today was just what I needed
to recuperate.
