Well a few days have passed so I have to play catch up. Our
flight from Germany left pretty early Friday morning, so we were all up and on our way to the
airport by 7:30 am. We took the train back to the airport and got our tickets
for the flights and met up with the few others that didn’t go to Germany. It was
another LONG day of traveling. We finally landed in Mombasa, Kenya around one
in the morning on Saturday and had to go through immigration, baggage claim, and customs.
Three vans from Elective Africa met us at the airport and loaded up our bags to
take us to the compound. We didn’t do much else that evening since it was so
late. We got a short tour (in the dark) of the compound. There is the main
house, which has a kitchen, living area, and three bedrooms. Outside the main
house there are three other cabins with bunk beds and a private bathroom. I am
in cabin number one with two girls that I came with and also a girl from Texas
who will be leaving at the end of this week. There is also a little courtyard
in the center of the compound and a patio with deck tables and umbrellas. The
pool is right outside my cabin and there is also a table and chairs out by the
pool and mattresses to float on. The water is always nice and warm since its
about 82 degrees year round here. We didn’t do much unpacking that night since
it was so late when we got in and got settled. We all just headed to bed with
the intent to sleep in a little the next morning.
